Lagoons of El Beni, Bolivia. Water levels in Bolivia's Laguna Largo begin to drop in the dry season. Large pairs of peacock bass begin to lay their eggs in the shallows. While males defend the territory the females remain above the eggs, and later the fry at all times. When approached by the camera they will attack the lens to try and back off the intruder! .Tributaries of the Rio Orinoco. Tiny rainforest streams not far from the Rio Orinoco mainstream are home to one of the Amazon's most famous fish: The cardinal tetra. These small habitats are ideal for the tiny fish which occur here in large numbers, together with other tiny characins, dwarf cichlids and juveniles of larger species entering from the mainstream of the big river.
